The suspension is responsible for:
providing good road holding characteristics, good steering ability, good straight line and cornering stability, even tyre wear and most importantly, absorbing road shock. All this whilst providing a smooth drive over rough or uneven road surfaces.

Shock absorbers, coil springs, leaf springs, suspension arms and bushes are all components of the suspension system.

Regular suspension maintenance requires the inspection,
re-tensioning, adjustment and, in some instances, lubrication of components at selected kilometer and/or monthly intervals, as specified by the manufacturer.

Periodic inspection of the suspension system is not usually required for passenger vehicles. Four Wheel Drive and All Wheel Drive vehicles will require periodic inspection due to the nature of driving conditions that may be encountered in day to day operation.
